Horseshoe Island - Woman Lake

One of the very best thing about our spring trip – the Loons are back on the nest and all’s well with the world..

Kelly and Zieman in Boat

Rick Zieman connecting up the new battery on Pat Kelly’s boat. Pat discovered the battery was broke when he tried to troll with it and went 3 feet and stopped.

Kelly Fighting a Northern

Bruce Boetcher heading to the boat for the evening outing. And yes indeed, he got a nice 21-inch walleye – see Picture 8

Kelly Bruce and Jerry Bundled in Boat

Jerry Peters, steely eyed old pro walleye man who’s fished Woman Lake for decades, heading out to his very favorite spot. He fished 4 hours and was skunked.

Rick Zieman Holding a Perch

Well, Jerry wasn’t totally skunked. He managed to catch my thumb.

Rick Zieman Holding a Walleye

– A moment of sheer courage. I ripped the hook out of my thumb with the pliers. Bruce almost fainted as he photographed the event.

Rick Zieman Measuring Fish

Later, despite the wound, I caught this monstrous Dogfish. A fierce battle.

Juris Starring at Computer

– And finally, Bruce with the big walleye of the day – and maybe the trip? – a 21-incher.
