Tueday's Pictures For May 18, 2010

Jerry Peters holding a smallmouth bass

This is what your minnow bucket looks like behind the boat when you’re going at moderate speed and have forgotten to bring the bucket into the boat.  When you get up to speed the bucket actually floats far behind the boat because the rope breaks.

Cloud shot taken using a polarizing filter on my Canon EOS 50D / 17-85 mm lens.  Again, slow fishing action, you take whatever photos you can.

We have spent more time fooling with batteries this trip. This is Jerry’s brand new Interstate deep cycle trolling motor battery.  It won’t charge.  We’re taking it in to Musky House Marine to see if they can get it charged.

The only good thing about all this is that Jerry gets a lot of exercise carrying the batteries back and forth between the cabin and boat.

Rick and Pat

View of Jerry’s Lund (left side) and my Crestliner (right side) tied up at the dock.  Right now both boats seem to work except for battery issues.  Largemouth on a nest between the docks, see next pictures.

Ricks floating log

There’s a largemouth bass guarding a nest full of eggs in about two feet of water just out from shore.  We’ve never seen anything like that in previous years.

Bruces First walleye for 2008

The bass is serious!  Another larger bass approached the nest and you can see what happened.  The encroaching bass skeedadled and did not come back.

Peter attempting to Eat Walleye.

This is me with one of the two Northern Pike I caught on Tuesday.  A totally unremarkable fish and picture, but like I’ve said earlier the photo ops are scarce this trip.

Pat Kellys Boat at Dock

Peters caught one too, but my fish was 1/2 inch longer by precise measurement. - a matter of complete inconsequence.

Jerry Preparing Tenderloin

And then, a crow fiercely attacking an eagle for several minutes as we watched.  We don’t know of course, what the eagle did to the crow (rob a nest?) but that crow was mighty irritated.  It finally gave up with no apparent result at all.
